Beloved for his compassion and good-natured manner, board-certified plastic surgeon, Michael A. Jazayeri, M.D. is known for combining medical expertise, surgical acumen, and a powerful esthetic sense. He brings a distinctly humane, creative, and well-rounded perspective to his work that he believes makes him the best plastic surgeon he can be – and his patients agree.
A plastic, cosmetic, and reconstructive surgeon and one of the most respected and well-liked members of the Orange County medical community, Dr. Jazayeri founded his practice in 1999. Since then, he has established himself as a leader in the field with a fascinating difference as a master of both the science and art of superb plastic surgery.
With offices in Newport Beach and Santa Ana plastic surgeon Dr. Jazayeri, sometimes called Dr. Jaz, brings a solid medical grounding based on decades of experience. His work is providing the best care possible to a broad range of humanity. Whoever the patient is, it’s not only science but also the art of improving or reconstructing the human form that matters.
The doctor credits his decision to become a plastic surgeon to a desire to harness his artistic and creative abilities as a photographer and classical guitarist to something with the added satisfaction of providing concrete results that can dramatically improve people’s lives. To this day, Dr. Jazayeri believes strongly in the importance of esthetics combined with a meticulous approach that ensures procedures are not only safe and effective but also bring more joy into a patient’s life.
It’s what some people might call the X-factor that makes the difference between work that pleases a patient and first-rate plastic surgery that truly delights them. Dr. Jazayeri is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgeons (ABPS) and is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). He is on staff and has privileges with several Orange County area hospitals.
Naturally, to be able to exercise the creativity that distinguishes one of the best plastic surgeons in Santa Ana and the rest of Southern California, it’s first necessary to gain the massive amount of training and knowledge necessary to be an outstanding doctor…and it might require some travel. For young Michael A. Jazayeri, it t all began in Orange County. He started out strong in his academic life, graduating magna cum laude from the University of California, Irvine.
His studies then moved north of the Orange County line when he obtained his medical degree from the internationally renowned medical program at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. When it was time to begin the all-important residency period, when newly minted MDs put everything they’ve learned into action, young Dr. Jazayeri left sunny Southern California for five wind-chilled years of surgical training at the University of Illinois-Chicago. That done, the young doctor returned to the West Coast, spending an additional year of training at Shriners Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.
There, he managed challenging cosmetic and reconstructive deformities with severe chronic burns, gaining extensive experience in scar revision and tissue expansion while helping the youngest and most vulnerable patients. Starting at this point, Dr. Jazayeri was published four times between 1994 and 2000 in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the official journal of the ASPS. Dr. Jazayeri’s next stop was in the Bay Area training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in San Francisco.
That was followed by his return to the Midwest when he took on his final three-year residency in plastic surgery at the Medical College of Ohio. By June 1999, that work was completed; by July 1999 he had opened up his first Orange County office and began the practice that continues to this day.
Whether procedures are aimed at attracting more positive attention or avoiding negative or unwanted attention, Dr. Jazayeri, board-certified plastic surgeon in Santa Ana, is known for his ability to empathize with his patients, explaining plastic surgeries in a pleasant and easy-to-understand manner without condescension and with a touch of quietly wry humor. Setting realistic expectations is key to ensuring patient satisfaction with a procedure, but so is a positive experience where patients feel listened to, respected, and kept as comfortable as possible.
While Dr. Jazayeri emphasizes a creative and well-rounded approach, he also believes in showing caution when deciding whether to employ a new technology or technique. Just because something is new and presumably “cutting edge” does not necessarily mean it is better and he prefers to be sure an innovation is an improvement before adding it to his repertoire. Moving on, Dr. Jazayeri has been critical of overly aggressive fat-transfer Brazilian butt lifts that seek outsize results.
His opposition is largely because the tendency may lead to dangerous practices like injecting purified body fat into the gluteal muscle. (BBL safety has increased notably since the technique was strongly discouraged by medical organizations in 2017.) *
Moreover, patients tend to become seriously disenchanted with extreme proportions that become increasingly problematic as they age, Dr. Jazayeri says. He has noted the same phenomenon in women with breast implants that may be too large for their bodies. In both cases, he counsels his patients that bigger is not always better and that the best plastic surgery doesn’t announce itself. Whenever Dr. Jazayeri works, he takes a holistic view. Whether performing a BBL or rhinoplasty, the idea is to create outcomes that flatter the patient’s overall appearance. After all, when someone wants their nose contoured, they don’t just want an attractive nose, it’s their entire facial appearance they’re concerned with; while many women want a more curvaceous backside, it’s really their figure they want to maximize.

“I think living a full life with lots of inspiration is maybe the best insurance against a plastic surgeon becoming stale or robotic,” says Dr. Jazayeri. “Our brains are the world’s finest computers and everything we add to our unconscious matters and can make for better outcomes. Even in the age of AI and ChatGPT, a strong human element is still required to do the very best plastic surgery,” he adds. Creativity has been a major part of Dr. Jazayeri’s life from the beginning. A skilled classical guitarist, his primary creative outlet these days is an award-winning photographer.
Many of his photos have been published and, as you can see on this page, he knows how to bring out the beauty of many of our fascinating animal friends with a camera almost as much as can bring out the beauty of a human being with a scalpel. A sampling of Dr. Jazayeri’s eclectic interests can be found on the site’s blog. While most posts cover medical and esthetic matters, the doctor occasionally veers to topics as diverse as the pleasures of fatherhood, the Webb Telescope, the genius of 18th-century composer J.S. Bach, and the multiple benefits of listening to a rare Prince live recording while enjoying a beautiful sunset on Pacific Coast Highway.
Patients and colleagues agree that Dr. Michael Jazayeri is both a superb plastic surgeon as well as a fine human being who is dedicated to providing the best possible outcomes for every patient.
