If you’re researching liposuction then you’ve probably run into the term “liposculpting” as well. Are the two terms different names for the same type of procedure? Not exactly.
Liposuction is a minimally invasive procedure in which excess fat is extracted from areas of the body that are generally hard to slim down through exercise and dieting alone. That said, liposuction is not a weight-loss procedure and is only meant to add definition to targeted areas.
There’s a lot of confusion about what constitutes liposculpting and many call it hi-def liposuction or just plain liposuction. By any name, this procedure also extracts excess fat from problem areas, except that some of this extracted fat may also sometimes be purified and injected back into the body to enhance the appearance of specific parts of the body.
For example, during a Brazilian butt lift, fat is taken from another area then injected back into the buttocks to enhance volume and contour, creating a rounder and firmer appearance. Also known as a fat transfer to buttocks procedure, the results are usually long-lasting and natural-looking (especially compared to implants).
Liposculpting is most commonly used to add volume or definition to the breasts, buttocks, or abdominal area. In the case of fat transfer to breasts, the results are typically less pronounced than breast implants though results appear and feel more natural.
So long as patients maintain their diet and exercising routine, the results of either procedure should last indefinitely. However, losing track of a healthy lifestyle could lead to unevenly distributed weight gain.
