Breast augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries performed in the United States. In this blog, I will present a typical post-operative recovery after surgery.
As one can see from the before and follow up photos, the breast shape becomes more natural with a tear shape as time goes by.
The photos are from preoperative, one-month post-surgery, three months after surgery, and finally six months post-operatively. Notice how the breast shape becomes more natural as the swelling subsides, resulting in more fullness in the bottom part of the breast, compared to the top part. The breast also goes from a “tight” look, to a more relaxed, and rounder breast shape.
Also note at the one month follow up, the right breast is slightly fuller on the top than the left side. This is due to swelling and differential rate of healing. For unknown reasons, our bodies never heal at the same rate, when there are two parts involved. Therefore, after breast surgery, liposuction of arms or legs, or ear set back surgery, one side usually settles faster than the other. Therefore, it is critical enough time (3-6 months) is allowed from any procedure, before deciding if additional surgery will be helpful to improve the result. As always, perfect symmetry is never possible.
