Years of muscle contractions in the face combined with the natural aging process can cause the fine lines and wrinkles to appear on the forehead and between the eyebrows. Eventually, these imperfections develop into deep creases and severe folds. As a result, many individuals are permanently left looking “tired” or “angry,” even though they may not feel this way. To restore a youthful appearance to the upper aspect of the face, a brow lift can be performed. Also known as a forehead lift, Dr. Michael Jazayeri performs this procedure at his Orange County practice for women and men of all ages.
What a Brow Lift Achieves
A brow lift can noticeably improve the appearance of the face by:
- Diminishing the appearance of horizontal lines and wrinkles on the forehead
- Reducing deep creases between the eyebrows
- Correcting sagging of the eyebrows
- Raising the brow area to a more youthful position
A brow lift is beneficial for individuals who feel the appearance of their eyebrows and forehead make them appear older than their age. Ideal candidates are in good overall health, have wrinkles or sagging in the upper region of their face, and are realistic about the outcome of their procedure.
Orange County Brow Lift
A brow lift is typically performed on an outpatient basis under either intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. Dr. Jazayeri will discuss which anesthesia option is best for you. The time needed to complete the procedure depends on the extent of aging that exists on the forehead and brow area. Once local or general anesthesia is administered, Dr. Jazayeri will make an incision in the hairline of the scalp that spans from one ear to the other. After the desired amount of excess skin and tissue is removed, Dr. Jazayeri will lift the eyebrows to a more youthful position and redrape the remaining skin on the forehead. For patients who have a low hairline, Dr. Jazayeri may place the incision inside the scalp in order to make the hairline higher and more attractive aesthetically. The incisions are then closed with sutures.
A brow lift is often performed concurrently with other procedures, such as a facelift or eyelid lift, for more complete facial revitalization.
Recovery and Results
When the brow lift is complete, adhesive tape and bandages will be applied to the incision sites. Since you will still be under the effects of anesthesia, you will need someone to pick you up and drive you home from the facility. Even though swelling and discomfort will be apparent during the first few days, prescribed medication can be taken to relieve these symptoms. Some downtime is needed to make a full recovery, but most patients are able to return to work and attend social events one to two weeks after surgery.
It will take a number of weeks before the final results of your brow lift become visible, but you can expect your new look to last many years. You will likely feel an improved sense of self-confidence knowing that you have a younger and more rested-looking appearance.
