A dimpleplasty in Orange County at the offices of Michael A. Jazayeri, M.D. is an extremely quick and simple procedure that produces just the right result – dimples that add to the beauty and charm of the patient’s smile. If you’ve been thinking that dimples might be just the accent your face needs, it’s likely that you can have them much faster than you might have thought possible.
How does dimpleplasty work?
Even though most dimples look adorable – they certainly didn’t hurt Tom Cruise or Shirley Temple – technically they are a type of minor deformity in which there is a defect in the facial muscle, so that the skin is essentially connected to underlying soft tissue. Therefore, dimpleplasty simply creates this defect so that, when the patient smiles, dimples appear. In these procedures, small incisions are made in the inner part of the mouth and a small portion of the check muscle is removed. A suture (stitch) connects the skin in the targeted area to the underlying soft tissue. In most cases, the entire procedure can be performed in about half an hour and requires only a local anesthesia.
At first, there will be some minor swelling and redness, but there will be no visible scarring since the incision is done inside the mouth. Initially, the dimples will be visible all of the time. However, over the next two to three months, the skin will relax as recovery is completed; in due time, the dimples will be mainly visible while the patient is smiling. The results are semi-permanent in most cases.
What about downtime and risks?
While there will be some temporary swelling and minor discomfort, the issue should be localized enough that this could be considered a “lunchtime procedure,” after which patients should be able to immediately return to their normal routines. The patient should refrain from chewing or using a straw for the first week.
The primary risk is of results that fail to create the right effect or which don’t last very long. The best insurance is to select a highly skilled and experienced physician.
