BILATERAL OTOPLASTY
Otoplasty (ear set-back) is one of my favorite procedures to perform. In a way, it is similar to rhinoplasty, as both involve judicious removal and reshaping of cartilage. With the current techniques, the recurrence rate is extremely low.
It is a shame most patients who have prominent ears do not request this surgery, since the prominence of the ears can distract the viewer from the rest of the face.
Ear surgery can treat:
-Overly large ears — a rare condition called macrotia
-Protruding ears occurring on one or both sides in varying degrees — not associated with hearing loss
-Adult dissatisfaction with previous ear surgery
Cost may include:
-Surgeon’s fee
-Hospital or surgical facility costs
-Anesthesia fees
-Prescriptions for medication
-Post-surgery garments, and
-Medical tests
