FAQ – LIPOSUCTION

What sort of scarring is expected after liposuction?

Incisions made for liposuction are very small, typically between three to five millimeters in length. While scars are minimal and usually fade over time with recovery, they may leave slightly visible marks similar to that of a freckle or fine line.

With certain liposuction techniques, Dr. Jazayeri notes there is a higher chance that the initial scarring will appear redder and take longer to heal if the procedure is completed too quickly.

Overall, Dr. Jazayeri says that scarring is almost never an issue with patients, and he hasn’t had any complaints. In his 20-year-career of practicing plastic surgery, Dr. Jazayeri notes that he has only revised one or two scars.

Can liposuction get rid of cellulite?

Simply put, a liposuction procedure cannot get rid of cellulite. Cellulite occurs as a result of an increase in fat cells constrained in a tight pocket beneath the skin that are pushing up against the skin. Attempting to use liposuction to remove the fat directly under the skin will only cause more problems and will not eliminate cellulite.

Can botched liposuction be corrected?

This depends on the severity of the issue. Generally speaking, if there are minor irregularities, it is possible to correct the procedure through the use of fat transfer and/or additional liposuction to smooth things out.

Unfortunately, if the procedure is truly botched and the issue is more extreme, Dr. Jazayeri says achieving the desired cosmetic results would be nearly impossible. The primary goal would then shift to helping the patient return to as normal an appearance as possible.
