The NRA held a news conference this morning, addressing their solution to the tragedy which happened in Connecticut.
Mr. Lapierre, the Executive Vice President of the NRA, suggested the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun, is to have a good guy with a gun available to respond quickly if needed. What is this, the dark ages???!!! Who runs this association, the ghost of John Wayne? How many cowboy and Tarantino movies do these people watch in a day?
Has Mr. LaPierre forgotten the Zimmerman incidence in Florida?
Fine, let us play Devil’s advocate, and allow every man and woman to have a weapon for self protection. But what justification does the NRA have for allowing civilians to purchase semi-automatic and automatic weapons? According to Wikipedia, the automatic version of the Bushmaster AR-15, the rifle used in the Connecticut shooting, does 800 rounds/minute (13 rounds/second). Does anyone need this kind of power in everyday life?
Unfortunately, the NRA has lots of money, which means they lobby heavily in Congress. Let’s see if the President and the Congress have the “cojones” to stand up to this absurdity.
