In our last blog, Mentor® Breast Implant Warranties: Part 1, we discussed the warranties Mentor® offers to patients who receive MemoryGel® or MemoryShape® silicone breast implants. Now, we want to share with you the warranties Mentor® offers to patients who receive its saline-filled breast implants.
Mentor®’s Warranties for Saline-Filled Breast Implants
Mentor® offers patients two warranties for its saline-filled breast implants: the Standard Advantage Warranty and the Enhanced Advantage Warranty.
Standard Advantage Warranty
Lifetime Warranty for Implant Deflation
In the event of a qualifying deflation (defined as loss of shell integrity) of a Mentor® saline-filled breast implant, Mentor® will replace the product, free of charge, for the lifetime of the patient. The explanted ruptured product must be returned to the Mentor® Product Evaluation Department within 60 days to qualify for the free of charge replacement product.
Financial Assistance Coverage for Saline Implant Deflation
In the event of a Mentor® saline-filled breast implant failure during the ten years after breast augmentation, Mentor® will cover the cost of a replacement implant plus up to $1,200 to assist with operating room, surgical, and anesthesia costs not covered by insurance. Free contralateral (opposite side) implant replacement is available upon surgeon request.
Enhanced Advantage Warranty
For patients with saline-filled implants, Mentor® offers an enhanced warranty with a one-time enrollment fee of $100 within 45 days after implantation. The benefits include:
Lifetime Product Replacement Policy
Mentor® will provide replacement of a Mentor® product of any size in the same or similar style as the originally implanted product free of charge for the lifetime of the patient.
Enhanced Financial Assistance Coverage for Saline Implant Deflation
In the event of a Mentor® saline-filled breast implant failure during the ten years after breast augmentation, Mentor® will cover the cost of a replacement implant plus up to $2,400 to assist with operating room, surgical, and anesthesia costs not covered by insurance. Free contralateral (opposite side) implant replacement is available upon surgeon request.
What Is NOT Covered
While Mentor® offers excellent warranties for their silicone and saline-filled breast implants, they do not cover everything. Here are some examples of what is not covered under Mentor®’s breast implant warranties:
- Any adverse event other than the ones described above
- Removal of intact implants for capsular contracture
- Removal of intact implants for size alteration
- Removal of intact implants due to wrinkling or rippling
- Loss of shell integrity caused by or during re-operative procedures
- Loss of shell integrity resulting from open capsulotomy or closed compression capsulotomy procedures
